Govt: Can we just build a giant hose to wash the poor rif raf away?

      Contractor: Give me a minute.

    2. Looks like the “urban renewal” projects that happened in many U.S. cities in the 1960s, where “slums” were bulldozed and replaced by high-rises, destroying long-established neighborhoods.

    3. From pretty city to an ugly wasteland with some buildings. What a waste both visually and financially…

    4. I don’t see any new buildings in the second image. I guess they just killed all the poors and called it a win?

    5. Saudis have zero understanding of urbanization, architecture and history. They razed their history to build a giant Sauron’s tower styled hotel next to their most sacred site.

      Redevelopment? More like Destruction.

Its much easy to clean up slums if you dont care about ppl living in there

    7. Next year there will be a park in the middle “New Saudi City”. The NYC of the Middle East.

    8. My dumbass accidentally nuking an entire district of people and services in city skylines at 2 am coz I selected bulldoze instead of dezoning

    9. I used to spend summers at my grandmother’s home which was in that area. And it is the area my parents grew up in Makkah. Some parts were less fortunate than others.

We are not poor, but we’re also not rich. The compensation definitely made my aunts and uncles and mom rich. A lot of other people opted to get land inside of Makkah in different neighborhoods instead of cash.

I have very fond memories from that period of my life and that area, but nothing lasts forever

    10. Wow – I thought the before was the desert land and the after with all of the smaller buildings in the center.
